ACC Impressive at Saginaw Valley
The Lumberjack baseball squad took to the road last week and tied and won against NCAA Division 2 opponent Saginaw Valley State University.
In the opener, ACC led 4-3 headed into the last inning but an error allowed the tying run to score. The teams had agreed before the game to not play extra innings and the game ended in a 4-4 tie. In game two, the Cardinals led 3-1 after three innings but the Lumberjacks scor3ed three in the top of the 5th and one in the 6th for the win.
Mitchell Walters had two hits, two walks, an RBI and two stolen bases to lead ACC offensively. Kaleb Blaskowski drove in two runs. Gage Kangas walked four times on the day. Brendan DiBartolomeo reached base three times, with two walks and a single.
Luke Gifford threw a complete game in game one, striking out four and giving up only two earned runs in six innings. In the nightcap, Brandon Maddox picked up the win in relief, striking out two in two innings. Tristan Simrau threw a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts to earn the save. Aaron Guitar threw two shutout innings as the starter.
ACC (9-23-1) plays a doubleheader at Bay College on Tuesday, April 30 and hosts Muskegon Community College for a four-game series next weekend in the season finale.
