Lumberjacks Sweep in Davenport Showcase
Alpena Community College closed out its fall season with two impressive victories in the Davenport JUCO Showcase, by beating St. Clair County Community College, 5-4 and Schoolcraft Community College, 4-2 in Grand Rapids.
ACC finished the fall schedule with a 9-3-1 record including victories over Saginaw Valley State University and Siena Heights University.
"We had great defense, solid pitching and timely hitting," Coach Rob Enslen said. "The fall season doens't count in the standings but it's a good chance to see what we have. We're excited about the regular season, but we will have to get the job done in the spring."
A four-run two-out rally in the sixth inning against SC4 proved to be the difference, as the Jacks rallied from a 3-1 deficit and held on for the win.
With two outs, Evan Fairbanks singled. Brett Moroschan and Kaden Benaske then both reached on errors, with Fairbanks scoring on the wild throw from Benaske's ground ball.
Jake Zann then delivered an RBI double to deep left field, plating Benaske. Brendan DiBartolomeo then singled in Zann to put ACC up 5-3.
DiBartolomeo had two hits and two RBI in the game. Moroschan scored two runs.
Grant Slater, Charlie Best and Caleb McEwen all threw shutout innings for the Lumberjacks.
Against Schoolcraft, Moroshan again had two hits and drove in two runs. Five other Lumberjacks had hits, including another double by Zann. Fairbanks had hits in both games.
Brock Wing, Marcus Castellon, Lane Gross, Ethan Bergstein and Zann all threw shutout innings. Gross struck out two of the three batters he faced.
ACC will open the 2025 regular season Feb. 22, 2025 at Jackson College.
