ACC Comeback Falls Short
A late rally to tie game two wasn't enough as Pellissippi State walked off a win against the ACC Lumberjacks, 7-6. Pellissippi won the opener, 10-0.
Trailing 6-3 headed into the seventh and final inning of the nightcap, with one out, Evan Faribanks and Brett Moroschan hit back-to-back singles to bring the tying run to the plate. Nate Koster then doubled to plate Fairbanks and move Morschan to third, cutting the lead to 6-4. JJ Salas then lined the pitcher's first offering into center field, sending in both Moroshan and Koster, and tying the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, however, the Lumberjacks could not hold on to the lead, as the leadoff man for Pellissippi hit a leadoff single, moving to second on an outfield error. With one out, the Pellissippi State runner stole third and scored on a throwing error for the win.
In the opener, ACC's Maxwell McCarty singled to lead off the game and later advanced to third without scoring. McCarty's hit proved to be the only Lumberjack hit of the game. Four ACC pitchers combined to allow 12 hits, six walks and one hit batsmen in four innings of work.
Moroschan had four hits, including a double, to pace the Lumberjack attack in the second game. Salas, Moroschan and Koster each had two RBI; McCarty scored twice.
ACC (0-4) continues its Tennessee trip with two more games against Pellissippi State (12-9) tomorrow in Knoxville, TN.
