ACC Baseball Goes 3-2 in Conference Round Robin
ACC had a successful weekend on the baseball field in the MCCAA North round robin event in Sandusky, OH as the Lumberjacks defeated Delta College 8-5, Muskegon Community College 13-4 and Bay College 15-11, and lost to Mid Michigan College 5-4 and to Grand Rapids Community College 8-1.
Jake Zann led the way in the five games, going 11 for 18 at the plate, slashing .611/.636/1.667 with four doubles, five home runs, eight runs scored and 11 RBIs. Zann was named the Northern Conference Player of the Week.
Against Delta, the Jacks trailed 5-0 early but scored in each of the last five innings of the game to pull away for the win. Zann was 4 for 5 with a double, two home runs and three RBI. Nate Koster singled and tripled. Max Coughlin threw four innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out five to earn the win. Lane Gross threw three shutout innings of relief, striking out five.
Next the Lumberjacks lost late to Mid as the lakers scored two in the bottom of the sixth to earn the come from behind win. Evan Fairbanks, Brett Moroschan, Koster and Zann had two hits apiece with Zann's being a double and homer. Grant Slater left the game with a lead, having given up only three runs, two earned in five innings pitched, but the bullpen couldn't hold on. Jonny Rensberry threw out three Laker baserunners attempting to steal.
Grand Rapids broke open a tight 1-1 contest with five runs scored in the top of the fifth and tacked on two in the seventh to pull away. Kaleb Donajkowski gave up only one run through four innings but tired in the fifth and took the loss. Maxwell McCarty, Zann, JJ Salas, Kaden Benaske and Rensberry each had hits.
ACC's bats came alive again against Muskegon as a seven-run second inning settled things early.
Koster was 4 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Zann had three hits, including a double and home run, scored three times and drove in four runs. Kaden Benaske singled and tripled and knocked in three. Brett Moroschan also had two hits. Jacob Brohl was the winning pitcher, striking out four in five innings. Charlie Best and Brendan DiBartolomeo each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
In the slugfest against Bay, ACC scored in five of six innings at the plate and scored three runs or more in three different frames.
Fairbanks had two hits, scored twice and had three RBI. Rensberry also had two hits and two RBI. Zann homered, scored twice and drove in two. McCarty scored three times from his leadoff spot. Gross picked up the win in relief, striking out four in 4.2 innings pitched.
The Lumberjacks (7-18 overall, 3-4 conference) are on the road this weekend against Muskegon (Friday/Saturday) and Grand Rapids (Sunday).
