Softball Stands Up Against Tough Competition
September 30, 2023
After taking on a high school travel team last weekend, ACC stepped up in a big way, traveling to Midland to take on Division 2 Northwood University in a doubleheader on Saturday. Though the squad lost 11-1 and 7-2, there were plenty of bright spots.
"The second game went especially well with great pitching performances from both Taylor Krentz and Alaina Saari, striking out a couple batters each and keeping the ball in the infield," Coach Drew Ornelas said. "Both catchers Macy (Schram) and Shae (Lampinen) were solid behind the plate and made some great throws to the bases for a couple outs. Outfielders caught some very deep fly balls while Makayla (Kamyszek) and Kenna (Tippman) locked down the left side of the infield and Femke (Van Elsacker), Shaelynn (Lance) rotating at second and Lacey (Kitter) at first locked down the right."
"We struggled a bit with our offense which we will work on for the next five months with a lot of cage work. What did impress us coaches today though was the aggressive base running which led the other team to some errors and gave us a couple runs. We have a lot still to work on but we are off to a good start," Ornelas continued.
The games closed out the competitive fall season. The team will continue to practice while weather permits this fall, before closing down until January. ACC will open their regular season in March at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in South Carolina.
