Softball Closes Out South Carolina Trip
Alpena Community College's softball team finished its spring trip in Myrtle Beach, SC with a tripleheader, losing three close games, to Wake Technical Community College (NC) 7-4, Mohawk Valley Community College (NY) 8-7 in extra innings and to Brunswick Community College (NC), 5-3.
Kirsten Neubecker and Magdalyn Sandoval each had two hits against Wake, with Sandoval driving in two runs.
Against Mohawk, the Lumberjacks led 7-1 after three innings, but MVCC scored six in the bottom of the fourth to tie in and scored in the bottom of the eighth to win it.
Kenna Tippman, Faith Cousins and Sandoval each had two hits. Cousins stole three bases and scored two runs. Allison Cece doubled and drove in two runs. Taylor Krentz came on in relief and threw four scoreless innings.
The final game, against Brunswick, was a close one throughout with the score tied 1-1 after four innings.
Kirsten Neubecker singled and doubled while Alaina Neubecker singled, scored a run and had an RBI.
On the trip, ACC finished with a 1-6 mark, but batted a robust .281 with a .390 on base percentage, averaging 5.8 runs per game. Individually, Emilee Modrzejewski batted .471 and Kirsten Neubecker hit .429 to lead the Jacks.
The Jacks open conference play this weekend at Grand Rapids Community College.
