Despite Results, ACC Volleyball Has Promising Moments In Season Start
ACC opened the 2024 volleyball season at the Buffalo Wild Wings and Corktown Pizza Timberwolves Quad in Petoskey, losing to Bay College in five sets; 25-23, 25-27, 22-25, 25-21, 12-15.
The Lumberjacks also fell in straight sets to Kellogg Community College; 16-25, 11-25, 22-25 and the host North Central Michigan College 14-25, 23-25, 8-25 to finish out the weekend.
"Despite the box score, we played very hard and challenged some very good teams," ACC Coach Courtney Holmes said. "We are a very young team but started to find some cohesiveness by the end of the weekend. With so many bright moments and strong play by many athletes, we look forward to building on this momentum."
Raquelle Miller was named to the All-Tournament team with 19 kills, three blocks and 23 digs.
Claire Blust led the Lumberjacks with 41 assists and six aces.
At the net Kirsten Neubecker contributed 17 kills and four blocks, Brooke Latuszek chipped in 14 kills and three blocks, and Olivia Precord recorded 11 kills.
Defensively, Sydney Hitzelberger led the way with 41 digs, Olivia Precord contributed 24 digs, and Lilly Adams recorded 16 digs.
ACC (0-3) opens conference play hosting North Central on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
